The Zonal Monitoring Committee of NICRA Technology Demonstration Component under ICAR – ATARI zone VI visited KVK Namsai and NICRA demonstration sites on 29th February, 2024. The ZMC team comprised of Dr. H. C. Bhattacharyya, Ex-DEE AAU & Dean Daffodil College of Horticulture, Khetri, Assam as Chairman and Dr. S. K. Ray, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-NBSS & LUP, Regional Centre, Kolkata as member interacted with the staff of KVK Namsai and visited the crop cafeteria, poultry, piggery, duckery, goatery and feed block unit of the KVK. They emphasized on developing Integrated Farming System Models in the KVK instructional cum demonstration farm. The team along with Dr. Utpal Barua, Senior Scientist cum Head, Dr. Binod Dutta Borah, SMS Animal Science, Dr. MadhumitaSonowal Bora, SMSPlant Protectionand Nang Nancy Munglang, SRF, KVK Namsai visited demonstration sites under NICRA in Krishnapurvillage. The Custom Hiring Centre established under NICRA – TDC was formally inaugurated by the chairman of ZMC in the presence of VCRMC and 54 beneficiaries. The chairman, while interacting with the NICRA beneficiaries stressed upon to increase the cropping intensity by cultivating more number of crops without keeping land fallow during winter. He emphasized on cultivation of pre kharif maize, rabi maize, black gram, rabivegetables in flood prone paddy growing areas to increase cropping intensity. The team suggested to take interventions on natural resource management component as well as housing of pig and poultry to mitigate flooding effects. Duck cum fishery based integrated farming system was recommended for climate resiliency and sustain farm income of farmers.
